10 Best European Summer Destinations to Add to Your List

Santorini, Greece.

Are you spending this summer in Europe but you’re still not sure where to head? Don’t worry about it because we’ve compiled a list of the best European summer destinations to keep on your radar for this year and the summers yet to come.

The Best European Summer Destinations

Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon a coastal city is best known for its sunny weather and vibrant vibes which makes it one of the best European summer destinations. The Portuguese capital offers interestingly colourful buildings, delicious food, and amazing nightlife. So, if you’re up for an adventurous summer full of life, Lisbon should probably make it to your list.

The Azores, Portugal

If you’ll be travelling to Portugal, then make sure to make room for The Azores on your itinerary. The archipelago, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, consists of nine islands of breathtaking nature. It’s considered one of the lesser-known destinations, which automatically makes it one of the best European summer destinations. The Azores is also home to around one-third of the world’s cetacean species, so this is a great place to visit for dolphin and whale watching. And if calderas also sound like something up your alley, then there’s no better place than the Azores islands. These include Sao Miguel, Corvo, Faial, Flores, Pico, Graciosa, Sao Jorge, Santa Maria, and Terceira.

Barcelona, Spain

Spain’s popular destination, Barcelona, may be an all-year-round but there are so many characteristics that make it the perfect summer destination. The variety of beaches, its sunny weather, and the abundance of festivities and open-air activities only to name a few. So, if you’re craving paella and some live music everywhere you go to feed your soul, Barcelona is the place to be.

Ibiza, Spain

This one may sound like a cliché option but if you’re a party animal, you can’t go to Spain without making a stop in Ibiza. Ibiza is the ultimate party destination in Europe thanks to its incredible nightlife. So, if you don’t mind splurging a bit on your summer trip, the party scene in Ibiza would be totally worth it!

Cyprus

The European island in the Eastern Mediterranean brings surreal nature and fascinating history together. Cyprus is among the best European summer destinations because of its turquoise waters and perfect, sunny weather. Some of the lovely parts to stay in on the island include Aiya Napa, Paphos, Coral Bay, and Larnaca.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

The Balkans offer some of the best European summer destinations too, and it’s safe to say that Croatia keeps a spot on the top. Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful cities in Croatia. It’s not just because of its ideal seafront location, but also because of its fascinating history and the views it offers. You see, Dubrovnik is known for its iconic Old Town and for being nestled between massive 16th-century stone walls. The overall vibe this city offers is everything straight out of a fairytale, which sounds like a dreamy way to spend your summer.

Amalfi Coast, Italy

Summer in Europe absolutely loves the south of Italy, and what’s a better destination there to take in the summer breeze other than the Amalfi Coast? The 50-kilometre coastline isn’t just one of the most breathtaking holiday spots in Italy, it’s one of the best European summer destinations, in general. The scenic views, the lovely towns, the abundance of glamorous beaches, you name it.

Cinque Terre, Italy

Another charming summer destination in southern Italy is Cinque Terre. It easily competes with the Amalfi Coast in terms of beauty, but what rather distinguishes Cinque Terre are its hiking trails. Getting around is a little bit more challenging there, so less glamour and more adventure. However, the extra break of sweat is totally worth it if these are the views you’re getting in return.

Provence, France

Just like the south of Italy is surreal, the south of France is not any less breathtaking. When people think of southern France, they often think of the French Riviera and its glamorous cities like Nice, Canne, and St Tropez. But did you know that the region of Provence is just as jaw-dropping? Provence offers picturesque landscapes that are perfect for postcard-like vacations.

Greek Islands

There’s no travel activity that screams summer like island hopping does, and the best European destination to do this is hands down Greece. The country boasts more than 2,000 islands in total, which explains why it should be your go-to when it comes to island hopping. Greece is home to popular islands like Crete, Santorini, and Mykonos, and it also offers underrated ones like Milos, Paros, and Ios. Whichever islands you choose for your aqua adventure, pristine waters are definitely guaranteed.

Which destination(s) sound like your cup of tea? If it were to us, we’d go to all of them if we can, so we’re definitely checking them off our list one destination at a time. How about you?
